I was glad to be able to attend this years Holocaust Memeorial Day at the Guildhall last Thursday and to have the opportunity to speak to those gathered in rememberance of this dreadful period in human history.
The event held aroung the memorial stone in the central courtyard of the Guildhall was also attended by the Mayor of Northampton, Marrianne Taylor and her consort, Cabinet members, Councillors and Faith representatives from across the town as well as members of the public.
The annual event was lead by the Youth Parliament member for Northampton who spoke with great feeling about our need to understand that oppression and bullying are composite parts of the spiral thats leads to these atrocites and that we must ever be mindful to battle these traits in ourselves and others in order to grow a peaceful and equal society.
Many people spoke and shared their views and beliefs on the attrocites and the fact that the world seems not to have learned as well as it should from history, not just the Holocaust of the 1930′s and 40′s but events even further back in time.
It was a solemn occasion and reinterated the need for all of us to forever vigilant to prevent all forms of oppression and bullying.
