Yesterday I joined 100 (Evening Telegraphs figures) local people from Kettering, Corby and Northampton in a march around Kettering to highlight and protest against the turning off of street lights across Kettering and the wider county by the misguided Conservative administration in county hall.

The walk was attended by campaigners determined to keep up the pressure on the County Council to rethink their ill thought out plans to out half the street lights to save £2Million.
The Liberal Democrat opposition of the County Council presented a fully costed and approved alternative budget which did not include the wholesale turning off of lights. But this budget was unanimously voted down by the Conservative members in favour of a budget with swinging cuts to services and streetlights.
“It is clear that the Conservatives have no idea of the problems they are going to cause and the anger they are brewing in communities up and down the County.
We now have a County which is strewn with lamp posts and speed cameras standing as a monument to the Tory mismanagement of the tax payers money across the County and a Council with no ingenuity or new ideas left. Real progress would be for the Council to look at efficiency across all the Councils departments rather that the blunt weapon of massive cuts in vital services”.
