Northamptonshire Liberal Democrats have slammed the Conservative administration at Northamptonshire County Council over the proposed supporting people review.
Cllr Brendan Glynane, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Opposition said “This is a contemptible assault on the most vulnerable. The Government has given councils £6bn to support these programmes, precisely because they support the most vulnerable members of society. The Conservatives are seeking to raid the budget for cuts as result of their long documented financial incompetence.”
“The Conservatives have already hit the vulnerable hard with the massive increases in charges for services such as meals on wheels and the 300% increase in transport costs. They are heaping misery on the people who are least able to manage.”
“Let’s be clear about the impact here. We are talking about money that pays for domestic violence shelters, vital wardens for the elderly, adaptations for disabled people to live in their homes and helping the homeless. This is opening the door to an awful lot of pain for people who need our help. It’s just not on. Yet again Northamptonshire Conservatives are proving that they are still the nasty party”
Scott Collins, Parliamentary Spokesman for South Northamptonshire “This is just another example of the Conservatives in County Hall being more interested in raping budgets meant to support the most vulnerable in society to cover their own mistakes rather than protecting them. All this because they have repeatedly denied the mistakes they have made with the finances of the County Council”.
