Councillor Richard Giddings, a former user of the Connexions service has written to the Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, urging the Conservatives to listen to young people on the planned cuts to Connexions.
Cllr Giddings said “I really benefited from the independent advice I got at Connexions, and the drop in centres are brilliant. I am very worried at the planned cutback to town centre drop in centres. It is absolutely crucial in these times of recession young people who are not in training or education get the best possible advice.”
“Before the Conservatives cut back this service they need to consult and listen to the voices of those who will be most effected. We hear a lot of rhetoric from the Tories about listening to young people, but here they are, making a decision that could effect the lives and opportunities of many local young people without even bothering to hear what they have to say first.”
