It would be hard to find a high spot in the May local elections. But in spite of the results from Northampton where we lost two seats, there was a real success in Towcester.

Following an excellent campaign in Towcester Martin Johns and Chris Lofts unseated two of the three Conservative councillors in the Brook Ward in Towcester with David Tarburn, the third Lib Dem candidate in the Brook Ward also receiving a large vote but just short of taking the third seat.

Scott Collins, Parliamentary Spokesman for South Northamptonshire, said “All the Lib Dem candidates across South Northamptonshire worked exceptionally hard and we increased the number of seats we foughtand also increased our vote share.

In Towcester the candidates worked especially hard and Martin and Chris  getting elected was just reward, although David, Linda and Deborah all deserved to represent the people of Towcester and I am sure they will continue to fight for the people of Towcester and the Liberal Democrats”

Cllr Chris Lofts commented “ The main issues were the proposed SNC offfice move and the closure of the public toilets. On the door step many said they felt completely let down by the local Conservatives.”Cllr Chris Lofts and I will be doing our best to let common sense to prevail. Towcester has clearly showed it wants the Tories to drop this SNC office move.”

Cllr Martin Johns said “Despite the Liberal Democrats suffering at the polls nationally, the Focus team’s hard work let us buck the trend. Tory policies like the proposed SNC office move are almost unanimously disapproved of by local people.
