The Liberal Democrats have uncovered figures that show that the Conservative run County Council gritted fewer roads in Northampton than any other district during the recent cold weather. Across the County over 45% of roads were gritted on average, with Kettering, Daventry and Wellingborough receiving 47-48% coverage, yet in Northampton only 39.8% of roads were cleared.
“Although not the worst in the county it is clear that the South Northants area fell behind with several villages being extremely hard hit by some very heavy snowfall and cold temperatures. The figures shown for Northampton will include the three wards which come into South Northamptonshire at the last elections and they are just not acceptable” Said Scott Collins in response to the figures.
“A third of the County’s population lives in Northampton, it is the County Town, and is the largest centre for employment in Northamptonshire. Many will wonder why the Town was deemed much less important than any other area of the County. Local people have been let down by the Conservatives and should demand answers.”
